Cotice The Ground Busan: An Honest Solo Stay in Nampo-dong with an Ocean View I Didn’t Expect

I needed to be near Busan Port early one morning, and getting there from further away at that hour seemed worse than just staying close. Cotice The Ground Busan came up when I searched for hotels near Nampo-dong — the location looked right, the price was reasonable, and the reviews were solid. I booked the cheapest rate on Trip.com, put in a request for a high floor, and got floor 19. What I did not expect was the view.

Cotice The Ground is a hotel in Nampo-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, South Korea, a 3-minute walk from Jagalchi Station Exit 3 on Metro Line 1. The building shares space with two other hotels — The Bridge and Radiant Nampo — but Cotice The Ground operates its own lobby on the third floor and has full front desk service. Radiant does self check-in.

The Location

The street food stalls that Nampo-dong is known for — grilled skewers, tteok, local snacks — are literally five seconds from the hotel entrance. Not a figure of speech. The alley starts right as you step out.

From the hotel, everything in this part of Busan is walkable: Jagalchi Fish Market, BIFF Square, Gukje Market, Bupyeong Kkangtong Market, Gwangbok-ro shopping street. Nampo-dong is Busan’s older downtown, and staying here feels different from Haeundae or Seomyeon — more lived-in, more local, closer to the parts of the city that have been there the longest.

For day trips further out, Gamcheon Culture Village and Yeongdo are both accessible by transit in around 15–20 minutes.

The Room

I stayed in a Standard Twin — around ₩50,000 (~$33 USD / ~28€) on a weekday, which is genuinely good value for the location and condition.

The room is compact but well-organized. What stood out immediately was that the flooring is solid, not carpet — which means less dust and easier to keep clean. There is no slipper-at-the-door setup. You take your shoes off and walk on actual floor. It felt more like a well-kept apartment than a typical hotel room.

The decor leans green and warm — nothing flashy, but more considered than the average budget hotel. The blackout curtains were thick enough to make morning non-existent, and the room was quiet. No noise from other floors came through at all.

The window faces the city, and I found an unexpected side angle of the sea — the Jagalchi Market direction, with Chungmu-dong and Seogu-gu Office area visible beyond. At floor 19, everything sits below you. Having a beer at the window at night would have been the right move.

Amenities

The room has a TV with streaming app access (YouTube worked), strong Wi-Fi, a large refrigerator, and a water dispenser rather than bottled water. The dispenser worked well — I refilled a bottle I had and kept it cold. There is a washing machine and sink in the room, but short-stay guests cannot use the laundry facilities. That is worth knowing in advance if it matters.

Cotice The Ground Busan bathroom shower stall

The bathroom is clean and modern with a shower stall rather than a bathtub. Toiletries provided: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, hair dryer and towels. Towels were provided for two people despite it being a single occupancy stay. No issues, no surprises.

Breakfast is optional at ₩8,000 (~$5 USD / ~4.5€) per person — Korean, Western and toast options — but you need to buy the ticket the night before at 23:00 at the latest. I skipped it this time.

Luggage storage is available after check-out, which is useful if your plan involves a few more hours in the area.

Three Hotels, One Building

One thing worth knowing: the building contains Cotice The Ground, The Bridge and Radiant Nampo. Cotice and The Bridge share similar room standards. The key difference is that Cotice has a staffed lobby on the third floor, while Radiant operates on self check-in. If room condition is comparable, the front desk service at Cotice is worth choosing. I noticed different hotel logos marked by each door as I walked the hallway, alongside what appeared to be long-term residents as well.

What’s Around

Nampo-dong is a good base for seeing the less tourist-packaged side of Busan. Here is what I would use it for:

Little Prince sculpture main Gamcheon Culture Village Busan

Gamcheon Culture Village is the colorful hillside neighborhood about 20 minutes by transit — the BTS mural, the Little Prince sculpture, two viewpoints and an eight-stop itinerary worth following. Full guide here.

View of Busan from inside Cheonmasan Observatory 2nd floor

Cheonmasan Complex Observatory is worth combining with a Gamcheon day — the new skywalk and rooftop complex that opened in 2026, reachable on foot from Gamcheon with panoramic port views. Full details here.

Colorful lighthouse and flower garden at Yeongdo waterfront — Busan walking route

Yeongdo Ganggangyi Art Village is about 20 minutes by bus — a shipyard-turned-art district on the island across the bridge, less visited and worth the short trip. More here.

Galmaegi Sand near by busan station

Galmaegi Sand near Busan Station is about five minutes from the station — good coffee, solid pastries and Busan-themed souvenirs worth picking up before leaving. Details here.

The Honest Take

Cotice The Ground Busan is not a design hotel. It is a well-run, clean, well-located budget option in one of the more interesting parts of Busan to base yourself. The price-to-location ratio is hard to beat. The ocean view was a bonus I did not pay for. If the rate looks right when you check, it is worth booking.
