I’d eaten Galmaegi Sand cookies before — at Gwangalli, years ago, with family. Everyone liked them. So when I found out the main branch was a five-minute walk from Busan Station, stopping in felt like a straightforward decision. What I didn’t expect was how much the menu had grown.
Galmaegi Sand is a Busan-born bakery specializing in handmade butter sandwich cookies. The name means seagull in Korean — an appropriate choice for a city defined by its coastline. The flagship store is located in the alley between Busan Station and Choryang Station — close enough to pick up on the way to the train, convenient enough to visit with a suitcase. The shop runs every day of the year with no holidays, which matters when you’re working around a travel schedule.

From Busan Station: Exit 6, walk 5 minutes. From Choryang Station: Exit 2, walk 4 minutes.
The location is genuinely useful. If you’re catching a KTX and realize you haven’t bought anything to bring home, this is close enough to fix that without rushing. It’s also a short walk from luggage storage at Busan Station — worth knowing if you want to shop without dragging a suitcase through a small store.
One note: the shop doesn’t take advance orders and doesn’t offer delivery. If you want a specific flavor, it’s worth calling ahead to check stock before making the trip.

The Signature Item — Handmade Butter Sand Cookies
The core product is a butter sandwich cookie — two thin, crisp biscuits pressed around a cream cheese filling. Three flavors form the base lineup:
| Flavor | Filling | Price (each) |
|---|---|---|
| Plain | Cream cheese + house-made caramel sauce | ₩2,000 (approx. $1.33 USD) |
| Blueberry | Cream cheese + blueberry | ₩2,200 (approx. $1.47 USD) |
| Mango Pineapple | Cream cheese + mango & pineapple | ₩2,200 (approx. $1.47 USD) |

Sets:
| Set | Contents | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Plain set | 10 plain cookies | ₩18,000 (approx. $12.00 USD) |
| Mix set | 4 plain + 3 blueberry + 3 mango pineapple | ₩20,000 (approx. $13.33 USD) |
| Mini set | 1 of each flavor | ₩6,000 (approx. $4.00 USD) |
Box and bag packaging is included in the price. The mix set is the right starting point if you haven’t tried them before — it covers the range without committing to a full box of one flavor.
Newer additions to the seasonal lineup include melon, lemon curd, raspberry, and Nutella. I picked up the melon flavor separately for myself. It has a different character from the original three — lighter and more fruit-forward — worth trying if you’re already going for a set.
The lemon curd is reportedly one of the most recommended by regulars. I didn’t try it this time, but it’s on the list for next visit.
Other Items Worth Knowing About
Seagull Madeleine — ₩15,000 (approx. $10.00 USD) per box of 6

Made with 100% rice flour, which means gluten-free. Three flavors: matcha, lemon, and chocolate. If you’re buying for someone with dietary restrictions or just want something that travels slightly better than the sandwich cookies, this is a solid option.
Butter Cookie (Ppada Cookie) — ₩11,000 (approx. $7.33 USD) per tin

The name comes from Busan dialect — ppada is the local pronunciation of butter. The cookie itself is dense and moist rather than crisp, with a strong butter flavor that isn’t overly sweet. Different from the sandwich cookie in texture and approach — closer to a shortbread. Good for people who prefer something less sweet.
Busan Craft Beer — ₩4,500 (approx. $3.00 USD) per can / ₩27,000 (approx. $18.00 USD) for 6-pack
Brewed to the German Reinheitsgebot purity law — water, hops, malt, yeast, nothing else. Six varieties available:

| Name | Style | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Jagalchi Wheat Beer | Wheat beer | Malt and hop balance, savory |
| Geumjeongsan Black Lager | Dark lager | Coffee and chocolate notes, smooth |
| Nakdonggang Pale Ale | Pale ale | Easy drinking, smooth finish |
| Oryukdo Pale Lager | Pale lager | Clean and straightforward |
| Busan IPA | IPA | Bold hop character |
| Haeundae Dark Ale | Dark ale | Complex malt and hop blend, dry hopped |
The beer is a genuinely useful option if you’re buying for someone who doesn’t need more cookies, or if you want something distinctly Busan that isn’t food.

What I Ordered
I went with the mix set — plain, blueberry, mango pineapple — plus the melon flavor separately, and a latte.
Personal ranking: blueberry was the standout. The cream cheese base holds the blueberry jam in a way that doesn’t tip into sweetness — it stays balanced. The mango pineapple is the most interesting combination of the three but requires the right mood for the sweetness level. Plain is reliable — exactly what it says.
The latte was an unexpected highlight. Wasn’t expecting much from a cookie shop’s coffee, but it was good enough to make me want to come back for it separately.
The melon flavor is worth getting if you’ve already tried the standard lineup and want something different. The cream cheese filling is still there, but the melon adds something lighter and distinctly seasonal.

Practical Notes for Souvenir Buying
If you’re buying for others and don’t know their flavor preferences, the mix set removes the guesswork. Individual cookies are also sold separately, which lets you try before committing to a full box.
The cookies are best eaten relatively soon after purchase — they’re fresh-baked and the cream cheese filling means they’re not meant for extended shelf storage at room temperature. Keep this in mind if you’re traveling somewhere warm or have a long journey home.
In-store purchase only — no online orders, no shipping.

For a full meal before or after your visit, Jeongjitgan is a Michelin Bib Gourmand pork soup restaurant also a few minutes from Busan Station.

If you’re looking for another Busan bakery to compare, Busandang is nearby and worth visiting alongside Galmaegi Sand on the same trip.
